Visitors to our remarkable range of historic sites in Sussex who choose to Gift Aid the cost of admission will now receive free entry for 12 months.

The Sussex Archaeological Society, the registered charity responsible for all Sussex Past sites, has adopted inclusive Gift Aid pricing at all of its historic properties. This includes Fishbourne Roman Palace, Lewes Castle & Museum and Michelham Priory.

If you are a UK taxpayer, we can claim back the tax you have paid on the admission price. Every £1 you pay will be worth an extra 25p to our registered charity.

By donating your admission, you will be directly supporting our vital charitable work to promote, protect and provide access to the heritage of Sussex.

Plus, your Gift Aid donation will entitle you and others covered by your original ticket admission to visit that site for a year – at no extra cost (excluding event days – see our FAQs here for Terms and Conditions).

How do I buy a Gift Aid ticket for your historic properties?

If you are buying tickets in advance, tick the Gift Aid option during the purchase process.

If buying tickets on arrival, talk to our teams and complete a Gift Aid declaration. All we require is your name and home address (which we will only share with HMRC when requested). We will do the rest.

What is Gift Aid?

Sussex Past is the working name for The Sussex Archaeological Society, a registered charity dedicated to promoting, protecting and providing access to the heritage of Sussex.

If you’re a UK taxpayer, we can claim an additional 25p from the Government for every £1 that you spend on admission tickets for yourself and your family.

This additional contribution will not cost you a penny, but it will make a big difference to our work.

In order for you to make a Gift Aid Donation you must:

  • -Be paying for yourself or your family to visit one of our historic sites.
  • -Expect in the current tax year to pay Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the tax the charity reclaims on your donation.

Gift Aid is a great way to support UK charities; if you would like to find out more about the scheme click here.

How do I convert my ticket into an Annual Pass?

It’s completely free to convert a single admission ticket to a Sussex Past Property into an Annual Pass. You just need to donate the cost to our charity during purchase.

To take advantage of this offer online, tick the Gift Aid box when purchasing a ticket. You will then be able to receive an Annual Pass at the ticket office when you visit the site.

Or, you can choose to donate your admission when buying tickets in person. Our Front of House teams will then provide you with an Annual Pass.

This pass will provide you readmission to a named Sussex Past site for 12 months. Terms and Conditions apply.

Please note:

  • -The Annual Pass is only eligible for a single Sussex Past property, where the donation for original admission was made.
  • -Under charity law, we are not permitted to refund donations once the payment has been processed.
  • -Annual passes are not valid on up to five exempt event days at each of our sites per year. Check in advance for details by visiting our FAQs page.
