Local youngsters scale six hillforts for Fishbourne Roman Palace
Four intrepid fundraisers scaled new heights as they completed a challenge to climb six historic hillforts while dressed as Celts and Romans to raise funds for Fishbourne Roman Palace.
On Sunday Vikki, Nick, Daisy and Ivy completed their Footsore for Fishbourne challenge with a special reception at the heritage site near Chichester. The team were joined on the final walk by Leanne O’Boyle, Executive Director of The Sussex Archaeological Society, which owns and cares for the heritage site.
The quartet braved the elements to climb six hillforts in less than six weeks dressed in authentic Roman and Iron Age outfits, raising an incredible £1015 to support the Palace’s charitable work.
Having met by chance at the Palace ten years ago, Vikki and Nick have instilled their love for Fishbourne Roman Palace into Daisy, 11 and Ivy, 8.
The youngsters had no hesitation in picking the largest Roman domestic property in the country as the recipient of their monumental effort.
Fishbourne Roman Palace Property Manager, Sarah Parker, said:
“We are incredibly grateful for the huge effort made by Vikki, Nick, Daisy and Ivy, who not only raised money for the Palace, but also raised awareness for our wonderful site in the process!
“The money raised by the team will really help support our educational work, helping contribute towards ensuring that Fishbourne Roman Palace will continue to amaze and inspire visitors for many years to come.”
We’d like to say a huge well done and thank you to Footsore for Fishbourne!
There’s still time to donate to the fundraiser, which you can do here.
