Looking for family days out in Sussex this February Half Term? There’s historical adventures aplenty at our Sussex Past sites.
Lewes Castle & Museum in East Sussex will play host to Medieval Madness, featuring soldiers, armour and archery, along with insights into life in the Saxon, Norman and Tudor periods. And Fishbourne Roman Palace, near Chichester, will celebrate what life was like 2,000-years-ago with At Home With Romans. There are free family activities every day this February Half Term at our Sussex sites (February 13th to 17th). For the first time, both sites will be hosting Birds of Prey displays with Hawking About, including falcons, owls and hawks. |
February Half Term at Lewes Castle & Museum
Take a trip back in time this February half term with Medieval Madness at Lewes Castle & Museum, a great family day out in Sussex.
Every day during February Half Term (13th to 17th February) this imposing Norman fortress will host a range of free, fun activities. It includes handling historical objects, activity trails, games and dressing-up. Those visiting on Saturday 11th February will be treated to a Birds of Prey display from Sussex-based Hawking About. Meet falcons, hawks and owls at this intimate display in the Gun Garden. And Soldiers at the Castle will take place on Saturday 18th February. This is an opportunity to meet and talk to reenactors about the weapons and armour of the Tudor period. Admission includes entry to the Museum of Sussex Archaeology. This features displays on the history of the county dating back thousands of years. |
February Half Term at Fishbourne Roman Palace
Discover more about life 2,000-years-ago with At Home With The Romans at Fishbourne Roman Palace, the largest Roman home in the UK.
From Mosaic Monday to Fashionable Friday, there are free family activities are on offer each day. Try your hand at arts and crafts, jewellery making, follow an activity trail around the Palace for a chance to win a prize. Visitors can also request a Roman hair makeover, as students from Chichester College Hair and Beauty department join us for the week. Plus you can marvel at the largest collection of in-situ Roman mosaics in the country. And you can discover more about the incredible finds uncovered at the site when it was discovered in 1960. All of the above are included in admission to the site. |
Booking information
Activities at both sites are included in general admission, with donations encouraged.
There’s no need to pre-book, but visitors can book general admission tickets via the Sussex Past website.
Members of The Sussex Archaeological Society, the registered charity which cares for both sites, can visit for free.
