We’re thrilled to share the triumph of our Heritage Open Days 2023 event. As part of the national scheme, this year’s event was a resounding success, drawing in over 3000 visitors who had the unique opportunity to explore our cherished heritage sites, completely free of charge.

Amidst the backdrop of an ongoing cost of living crisis, this year’s event held special significance. Sussex Past proudly flung open the doors of historic landmarks, offering a warm welcome to individuals and families seeking a glimpse into Sussex’s rich past and making our region’s cultural treasures accessible to all.

From the awe-inspiring Lewes Castle & Museum to the enchanting Anne of Cleves House Museum, the historic Bull House, the fascinating Collection Discovery Centre at Fishbourne Roman Palace, and the swashbuckling Marlipins Museum —each site offered a unique window into Sussex’s illustrious past. These sites collectively provided an unforgettable experience for history enthusiasts, families, and anyone with a curiosity about our heritage.

We’d like to extend gratitude to every visitor who joined us at our sites during Heritage Open Days. As a charity that operates without regular funding, we rely heavily on the support of our valued members, our enthusiastic visitors, and the generosity of those who donate to our cause.

If you would like to make a donation, no matter how big or small, we’d be extremely grateful.

Your support will play a pivotal role in ensuring that future generations can continue to explore and cherish the rich history and cultural heritage of Sussex.
