Volunteering with Sussex Past
Passionate about Sussex’s rich history and supporting local heritage? Our new volunteer initiative at Sussex Past is the perfect opportunity to join a friendly team, learn new skills, and make a real difference.
Our dedicated volunteers play a vital and rewarding role in preserving and promoting the heritage of our region. In return, they become part of a warm, welcoming team, enjoy behind-the-scenes access, and connect with like-minded history lovers. As a registered charity, we simply couldn’t deliver our mission without them.
There are lots of opportunities for volunteers to get hands-on with history. Whatever your interests, there’s a rewarding role you’ll really enjoy. We’re looking for volunteers to be involved in tasks like:
– Welcoming visitors to our historic sites
– Selling locally sourced products and gorgeous gifts in our on-site shops
– Providing invaluable admin, gardening and maintenance support behind the scenes
– Supporting educational visits to make wonderful memories
Why volunteer?
People volunteer with us for lots of reasons. We have young people gaining work experience in the heritage sector, retirees who finally have time to indulge their passion for the past, and everyone in-between.
Helping preserve and promote cultural heritage can be deeply fulfilling, especially knowing that you’re contributing to the education and enjoyment of future generations.
From customer service to event planning and maintenance work, volunteers build useful skills that can apply to other fields. Volunteering brings people together with shared interests, leading to strong social bonds and a sense of belonging. It offers a chance to learn from others and share experiences across generations. Spending time in beautiful surroundings can reduce stress and increase feelings of wellbeing.
