This stunning timber-framed medieval house dates back to the 15th century. It was given to Anne of Cleves at the end of her short-lived marriage to Henry VIII – although she never lived there.

Explore well-preserved interiors including a Tudor kitchen, a light and airy parlour, and a beautiful bedroom complete with four poster bed.

Take advantage of the selection of dressing up clothes to find your inner King or Queen and bring the historic surroundings to life.

Learn about Sussex life through a fascinating collection of historic domestic artefacts. Then stroll through the garden, which is inspired by a traditional Tudor planting scheme and includes herbs, shrubs and fruit trees appropriate to the Tudor period.

Anne of Cleves House is located in Lewes town centre in East Sussex. Lewes can be reached via the A27, A26 and A275.

Getting here – public transport

Lewes has good train and bus links. The train station is a five-minute walk from Anne of Cleves House and there is a taxi rank outside the main entrance to the station. Buses stop in the High Street, a short 10 minute walk from Anne of Cleves House and Lewes Castle & Museum.

Getting here – by car or coach

Lewes is easily accessed from the A27, A26 and A275. Drivers using the A27 should enter the town from the eastern end of the Lewes by-pass via the Cuilfail Tunnel. Car parking and coach parking are available in the town.

Accessibility at Anne of Cleves House

The museum is presented over several levels, connected by stairs. Due to the historic nature of the site, access for those using wheelchairs is limited. Please call ahead for further information.

Advance booking is not necessary but those who wish to can book tickets ahead of their visit. Tickets booked online will be sent via email. You may visit us any time during our opening hours, last admissions 30 minutes before closure.
