A Step in Time at Lewes Castle

Looking for unique Sussex gifts? History lovers can choose a bespoke inscription to be engraved on a brick and set into one of the 40 remaining steps at Lewes Castle.

The steps lead up to the Keep at the Norman castle, with its stunning 360-degree views of the town, the South Downs National Park and the Weald.

Whether it’s a tribute to a loved one or your feelings about the Castle, each inscription will remain in full view for visitors climbing the steps forever, giving the gift of a permanent mark on Sussex history as well as help preserve Lewes Castle and our other stunning historic sites.

Sponsoring a step with a permanent bespoke inscription costs £1,000. It comes with a year’s membership to the Society and a personalised authentication certificate signed by our Patron, historian, author and broadcaster Tom Holland.

As a celebration of our 175th Anniversary and with only 40 steps remaining the inscription available will be available over three lines of up to 16 characters (including spaces) per line.

For more information and to sponsor a step email fundraising@sussexpast.co.uk or call us at Lewes Castle on 01273 405730 between Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, to talk to someone about creating your special gift.
