Step into the world of medieval knights and towering castles this May Half Term at Lewes Castle!

Follow the Knight’s Shield Trail
Take on the challenge of our brand-new family trail, inspired by the legendary Battle of Lewes in May 1264. Search the castle grounds for the shields of knights who once defended these historic walls. At each of our three trail stops – the Pavilion, Barbican, and South Tower – you’ll find special colouring stations where children can bring the shields to life with their original, historic colours. Will you find them all?

Explore and discover
Wander through the ancient ruins, climb the winding steps of the towers, and soak up breathtaking views across the South Downs and the town below. It’s a true journey through time, from the dramatic days of medieval conflict to the peaceful beauty of today.

Dress the part
Don’t forget to stop by our dressing-up area, where young visitors can become knights, royalty, or castle characters. With a costume on and shield in hand, the adventure becomes even more real!

This self-guided trail and activity are included with general admission – no need to book. Just turn up and enjoy a castle-full of half term fun!
