Saturday 20th July

Join the Friends of Fishbourne Roman Palace for a fascinating talk: The Lepers on the Hill by Lesley Johnson

About the speaker

Come and find out about lepers and leprosy in medieval times.

Our speaker Lesley Johnson will outline what leprosy is, how it was viewed in the medieval period, and take a quick look at some medieval cures (or not cures!). She took part in and will summarise the Magdalen Hill excavations (Winchester) and then move on to look at two or three case studies, one of which will be “The Pilgrim”.

Please note – there will be archaeological specimens of leprosy, all dry bone, no “live” cases.
