New Executive Director appointed for The Sussex Archaeological Society
The Trustees of The Sussex Archaeological Society are delighted to announce that Leanne O’Boyle will act as the Society’s Executive Director with immediate effect.
Leanne, pictured below, joined the Society in January of this year as Head of Historic Properties after 8 years with The City of London Corporation, most recently as Head of Cultural & Visitor Strategy. She holds an MA in Cultural Heritage Studies and a BA (Hons) in the Ancient World (Classics and Archaeology) from the UCL Institute of Archaeology, with additional qualifications and skills in coaching & mentoring. She is a Council member of the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society (LAMAS) and an expert advisor for the Centre for the History of People, Place and Community at the Institute of Historical Research.
The role of Executive Director will be an evolving one over the coming months, working closely with the Board of Trustees who take up an enhanced role at strategic level.
Amanda Jones, Chair of the Council of Trustees said: “We are enormously excited to be working with Leanne in this new position. Her impressive mix of heritage and operational management expertise is especially valuable at this time – as the Society embarks on formulating its new strategy through to 2026. We hope she will enjoy this new challenge and wish her every success.”
Leanne O’Boyle said: “I am honoured to take on the Executive Director role at this exciting time for the Society. For 176 years the Society has played an important role in the fields of history and archaeology with our extraordinary sites and collections spanning thousands of years of our collective past. Since I joined, I have been struck by the passion and commitment of our staff, volunteers, Friends and Members and look forward to leading the team as we set out a bold vision for the future.”
