As a registered charity, we’re incredibly mindful of our role in ensuring the heritage of Sussex is as accessible to as many people as possible – which is why we offered free entry to our sites for the most disadvantaged local families this summer.

Our Lewes sites have been running the scheme for several years now and this year we extended it to Fishbourne Roman Palace and Michelham Priory.

With the cost-of-living crisis hitting so many families hard, we worked with food banks in Hailsham, Chichester and Lewes district to provide dozens of free entry vouchers to families who access the service. The vouchers are designed to be used discreetly, allowing families to experience a day out at our historic sites this summer.

We are also working with groups supporting refugees and asylum seekers, so that those living in Sussex are able to experience a day out in their local communities.

This targeted support has been led by our Learning & Participation team, who are always looking for ways in which to work with community groups and charities in a positive way. If you are a local group that would like to work with us then please contact learninglewes@sussexpast.co.uk.
