MEMBERS
The library rooms are available to members from 10am until 5pm every Tuesday to Saturday during the year. Also throughout the year, on Sundays, Mondays (except January), and Public Holidays except Christmas Day and Boxing Day, the library is open to members from 11am to 5pm. See opening hours of Lewes Castle for any additional days closed.
NON-MEMBERS
Non-members may also use the library, if circumstances permit, Monday to Friday only, excluding Public Holidays, and preferably by previous appointment. There is no charge, but donations for the Society’s funds are welcomed.

Our library is a substantial one on the top floor of Barbican House, Lewes, (next to Lewes Castle) and relates to the study of archaeology and history in Sussex. Our helpful voluntary staff are on hand to assist you make the most of your visit.
Something for the historians...we are pleased to be able to offer as a downloadable file (to the right; about 0.5Mb in size) the Sussex Historian's Handbook - Bibliography (2000), compiled by John Farrant with contributions from Sue Berry, Colin Brent, Antony Fletcher and Tim McCann. We also offer a download 'Abstract of Turnpike Acts relating to Sussex' kindly transcribed from an original typescript in our library, by member Martin Snow.
Please also see the Scrapbooks Database (right) for two proof books of John Baxter, Lewes printer, 1813-1818, and two scrapbooks of miscellaneous broadsheets, billheads & other printed ephemera mainly from 1818-1892.
