Ashdown House, like Hammerwood Park, was designed by Benjamin Latrobe who also designed the original White House in Washington. This handsome development of Ashdown House was completed for Trayton Fuller before Latrobe left England for America in 1795. The 17th century house was retained to be used for services and the new residential building was added in front. The elegant facade includes an entrance which, unusually, has a shallow vault of Coade stone. The stables were also designed by Latrobe but the chapel is by Norman Evill and built in 1933-34. The house has been a school since 1886. No refreshments will be available during this visit.
