Hidden away in the Southover Quarter of Lewes, Anne of Cleves House has been playing host and welcoming visitors for over 600 years. Originally a lodging house for the distinguished guests of Lewes Priory, the house has long been a place of warm greetings, celebrations and lavish feasting.
In 1538 the house fell into ownership of the crown during the dissolution of the monasteries and was granted to Anne of Cleves by England’s most famous King, Henry VIII as part of their divorce settlement. Following Anne’s death the property reverted to the crown and was later sold to Robert Saxpes and his wife Margaret who warmly welcomed and entertained their friends and neighbours in the most exquisite and genteel fashion. Follow in their footsteps and host your own exquisite entertainment for your friends and family at Anne of Cleves House. What better way to spend your day then surrounded in beauty and history in a house once owned by Anne of Cleves?
