This superbly illustrated book has been written with the object of stimulating interest in the wildlife and countryside of the South Downs National Park, not simply by highlighting some special plants and animals, but by giving readers a greater understanding of the evolution of the wild places, the history of nature conservation and the management of habitats and species.
Robin Crane CBE was a film producer and director who has worked with the BBC Natural History Unit. He has also been chairman of the Sussex Wildlife Trust.
Rendel Williams was Reader in Physical Geography at the University of Sussex and chaired the Conservation Committee of the Sussex Wildlife Trust.
