Patron and Historian, Tom Holland Narrates a Series of Videos on the Society’s Historic Site and Treasures 

Society Patron and Historian, Tom Holland has narrated a series of videos, each focusing on a different one of our historic sites and treasures.  A new video will be posted fortnightly on our website and social media pages so do keep checking back in with us. A huge thanks to Tom and film-maker, Jamie Muir for their support in producing these. We hope to welcome visitors back as soon as possible, but in the meantime, please watch and enjoy these, which bring our local history to life. Tom Holland videos.

The Society welcomes the New Sussex Finds Liaison Officer, Jane Clark

Jane Clark, the new Finds Liaison Officer (FLO) for Sussex has recently moved to Sussex from Kent where she worked as the Finds Liaison Assistant for Kent. She will be based at Lewes Castle Museum and is no stranger to Sussex having worked on local Roman excavations at Barcombe, Plumpton and more recently The Culver Project at Bridge Farm.

The Portable Antiquities Scheme is the national programme run by the British Museum for the identification and recording of archaeological finds made by members of the public.

The Sussex Archaeology Live at Home Series:  

The Sussex Archaeological Society “Live At Home” winter lectures continue every other Wednesday at 7pm with fascinating and inspirational speakers. Regular details on these lectures and how to join are available on our website and Facebook page,

Click and Collect at Michelham Priory House & Gardens

As part of the Shop Local this Christmas campaign, Michelham Priory’s Dovecote Shop is offering a small selection of items on a click and collect basis.

Society Events December:

Christmas through the ages at Michelham Priory House & Gardens – Come and experience Christmas through the ages during weekends from 5th to 20th December. The house will be decorated showing Christmas in different eras, there will be a children’s trail in the grounds, tasty Christmas treats in the café and some beautiful Christmas gifts available in the Dovecote Gift shop.

The Society’s Historic Sites

  • Michelham Priory House & Gardens: November – closed. December open Saturday and Sundays, 11:00 ‒ 16:00 from 5th to 20th December with timed tickets available on arrival for entry to the house. Café offering take away service, shop open.  Dogs welcome on short leads from 13:30 each day. Watermill closed until spring 2021.
  • Fishbourne Roman Palace & Gardens, Lewes Castle & Museum, The Priest House, Marlipins Museum and Anne of Cleves House Museum: Closed until further notice.
