The Sussex Archaeology Live at Home Series:

As the colder months approach and with our lecture programme unable to happen this year, we want to share our interest in the past by offering a series of live online lectures in the comfort of your own home.

The Sussex Archaeological Society Live at Home series runs fortnightly until next March and will offer an expert’s insight into some of Sussex’s fascinating archaeological sites. Each evening will include a 45-minute lecture, followed by an opportunity to take part in a discussion and Q&A.

The autumn season kicks off on Thursday 15 October at 7pm with Society Vice Chair, Dr Matt Pope and his lecture, The Ice Age Archaeology of Sussex.

Matt is an archaeologist based in Sussex who leads early Prehistoric projects for the UCL Institute of Archaeology field unit, Archaeology South East. Matt will explore the internationally important Boxgrove ancient landscape through to glimpses of late Neanderthal populations and the first Homo sapiens in the region. He’ll suggest strategies and focuses for future discovery, as well as some of the threats facing this fragile and important record in the 21st century.

The first lecture is free to anyone who registers, with the remaining series only available to Society members. If you aren’t yet a member or perhaps you’d like to renew, you’ll not only be helping to support the Society’s work during these challenging times but you’ll have access to all the lectures for free! Annual membership costs from just £40 or £20 for students.

Register for Matt’s lecture by emailing: membership@sussexpast.co.uk. Details on how to join the lecture on Zoom will be sent before the date.

Further confirmed speakers and member registration will be announced soon.
