We are pleased to announce that author and historian Tom Holland has agreed to be the patron of our Celebrating 175 Years appeal.
The society will be 175 years old next June, a cause for real celebration.
However, the unique historic properties we care for across East and West Sussex have been closed since the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown, resulting in a huge loss of income, and we now fear we may not make it to our special anniversary.
With that in mind, on June 16th we launched a £1million appeal to raise the funds which will take us into the next decade. The money will enable us to protect our buildings, support research and enhance our offer to visitors, both schoolchildren and adults.
Tom Holland: “How wonderful it is that in a county as rich in history as Sussex even the archaeological society – an absolute model of how to preserve and cherish the legacy of the past – should be 175 years old next June. Now is the perfect opportunity to help it flourish for at least another 175 years.”
