2021 New Year’s Update

We are ready to face 2021 (and our 175th anniversary!)

Although 2021, our 175th anniversary year, has not started as positively as we had hoped we are still very determined and full of optimism. We will emerge from the pandemic building a strong, sustainable and inclusive heritage organisation dedicated to better understanding, celebrating and sharing the history & archaeology of Sussex.

We would like to thank you for every kind word, donation, visit or other act of support you showed us through 2020. It has meant so much to our staff, volunteers and Trustees to have the support of members and visitors despite the impact that Covid-19, property closures and furlough has had on our charity.

The Sussex Archaeology Live at Home Series:

We are continuing to offer our Members the Sussex Archaeology at Home lecture series via Zoom. To open the 2021 series we are lucky enough to be joined by one of the Society’s most eminent historians, Dr Sue Berry, who will be talking on The Houses of the Sussex Downs ahead of the launch of her new book on the subject. We will soon be announcing the full programme of lectures right through to May. Members should register for the event through the link on the event page.

If you aren’t a member do considering joining us, you’d be very welcome and you’d be helping to support the Sussex Archaeological Society through the pandemic.

Patron and Historian, Tom Holland Narrates a Series of Videos on the Society’s Historic Site and Treasures

Society Patron and Historian, Tom Holland continues to share his series of narrated  videos, each focusing on a different one of our historic sites and treasures.  A new video will be posted fortnightly on our website and social media pages so do keep checking back in with us. A huge thanks to Tom and Film-maker, Jamie Muir for their support in producing these. We hope to welcome visitors back as soon as possible, but in the meantime, please watch and enjoy these, which bring our local history to life.

The Society’s Historic Sites

Our historic sites are currently closed in-line with Government restrictions. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause and look forward to welcoming you again soon.
