How to book

Please contact the Education Officer on 01273 405734 or to discuss or book a visit.

We recommend that bookings are made a minimum of 6 weeks in advance, although sometimes we may be able to accommodate you at short notice. Following your booking by phone, you will be sent a copy of your booking form plus some useful information and free passes to the Castle.

Preliminary Visits: we recommend a planning visit for teachers.  You will be sent two free passes when you make a booking. If you would like to visit before you decide to book, or would like to meet with the education officer, please call in advance.

Session times: visits to Lewes Castle usually begin at 10am. We can run two to three sessions in the morning and teach up until 4pm. We recommend a maximum of 60 children. We will help to plan the timetable. In special circumstances we can come out to you. Outreach sessions are charged per child per session. There is also a charge for mileage return from Lewes to your school.

Costs: £3.00 per child per workshop, plus normal group admission price.

Payment: Payment for all visits is usually in arrears and by invoice. Cheques should be made payable to Sussex Past. You will only pay for the children who attend. Outreach sessions are also charged by invoice.

Accompanying Adults: a number of adults are admitted free (usually one adult to five children). Additional adults are charged the current group discount admission rate. One to one support staff are also admitted free.

Cancellations: if a visit is cancelled with less than ten working days’ notice we reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee of 30% of the full cost of the visit.

Risk Assessments: click here for guidelines and possible hazards which we would like you to read before your visit.  All visits begin with a short safety talk and introduction. We expect all children on the site to be supervised at all times by adults from your school.
