As we enter our 175th year of ‘operations’ having celebrated our 174th Birthday on 18 June, we have lost £1 million in revenue due to the Covid-19 pandemic. These vital funds are needed for the ongoing care, conservation and maintenance of our sites – some of the most significant heritage in Sussex and the country.
In the run-up to our 175th Birthday, we’ve come up with some ideas of how you can help us fundraise for and celebrate our work. Whatever you decide to do to support us, tag us on our social media and use #SussexSociety175
Sponsor a Step
For just £1,000 you can install a commemorative inscribed step at Lewes Castle and become part of its 1000 year old story. Each inscription can be up to 32 characters long including spaces.
Take Part in a Cycling Challenge
The counties of Sussex are known for their beautiful landscapes as well as their heritage. Why not explore them by bike and cycle 175 miles before our 175th Birthday on 18 June 2020 to raise funds for us?
Or, cycle between some of amazing properties and let us know in advance, so we can welcome you along your journey. Our CEO, Catherine Cavanagh, will be cycling 75 miles from Michelham Priory to Fishbourne Roman Palace via Lewes in August, if you’d like to sponsor her or join her en route.
Have a Read-athon
Our properties have inspired many wonderful stories, both fiction and non-fiction, and see if your school or class can read 175 books between you all before our birthday! If you plan to read 175 books yourself over the next year to raise funds and are looking for inspiration, then get in touch and we will send our recommended list of 175 books connected to our amazing sites!
To find out more or to let us know your fundraising plans, so we can share it on social media, please email us. And don’t forget to join us on Facebook, Tweet us, or follow us on Instagram using #SussexSociety175
