The Sussex Plantsmen’s gardens c1860-1930

This event has passed.

The talk by Dr Sue Berry will focus on the development of a distinctive group of gardens, some of which are now tourist attractions such as Borde Hill, Nymans and Wakehurst Place in the Weald, and the lesser known High Down gardens near Worthing on the chalk of the South Downs. All of the owners enjoyed gardening but were also collectors of new plants and most funded also plant hunters. Who these people were, why they bought where they did and how they acquired their plants will be themes of this talk.

N.B. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to postpone this talk. We hope to reschedule later in the year. Please check Sussex Past and Present April 2018 edition when it is available or revisit this page for an update.
