Originally at Lewes Town Hall by the eminent medieval historian Professor David Carpenter, the author of The Battle of Lewes and Evesham. It was a great success, but sadly the room couldn't accommodate all the people who wanted to hear it.

This was an event to launch the Sussex Archaeological Society's Battle of Lewes Project, made possible by generous funding from the Heritage Lottery scheme. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of the Battle of Lewes, fought on 14 May 1264. Simon de Montfort's victory over Henry III led directly to Britain's first ever national parliament.
The lecture was followed by a talk about the Project, including suggestions for ways in which community groups can get involved.
