Education at Marlipins Museum
Marlipins Museum in the High Street, Shoreham-by-Sea is a rare blend of old and new. The front of the building dates from the 12th century onwards and the annexe was opened in 2004.

The museum displays feature the local history of the area from its archaeology, including examples from Roman sites, up to the present day, such as Shoreham Airport, its silent film industry and above all its maritime past. An artefact collection is also available for handling sessions. There is also flexibility to provide back-up for other topics as required by teachers, given reasonable warning, and we are happy to help wherever we can.

The museum is run by volunteers, and many who help at the Museum have experience of working with children and adults. Many are CRB checked and have undertaken a training programme put on by the West Sussex Museum Education Co-ordinator.

Marlipins offers an active workshop on the theme of Pirates, which began as a Creative Writing project, but includes artefact handling, observational drawing and some role play.  The museum has been actively involved with a number of school projects and is always keen to try to help wherever possible.
